Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts – Preschool Fun in a Box

Here is a review I wrote of Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts for the January/February 2011 issue of Homeschooling Today magazine:

Imagine a preschool child’s excitement when the mailman arrives with a special package just for him. The package is full of craft materials—everything he needs to make projects for a month. A busy homeschooling mother doesn’t need to spend time planning and shopping for craft supplies. For fifteen minutes, three times a week, her preschooler has her complete attention for a special learning and fun time.

This is the beauty of Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts. The monthly fee includes all materials for twelve preschool crafts conveniently shipped to your door. No scrambling to find wiggly eyes or orange chenille-covered wires and no leftover beads scattered over the living room floor. (Does that happen at your house too?) The only items to supply are glue, scissors, and crayons, which you store in the included box.

Each month’s supplies give complete directions and illustrations and incorporate holiday activities, a color and number focus, and book and snack suggestions. The crafts are simple enough for preschoolers to complete with minimal direction, and they build fine motor skills without frustrating young children.

At first, I thought the subscription cost might be high, but when I considered the cost of yarn, chenille-covered wires, packages of wiggly eyes and sequins, photocopying, and so forth, I saw I would easily spend more than the fee and would have to plan and shop for supplies that are sometimes difficult to find.

My preschooler blossomed while using Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts. He is better able to follow directions and is confident in his ability to do a project himself with just a little help from me. We put his completed crafts in his notebooks, hang them on the wall behind his bed, or mail them to grandparents, which they enjoy. He looks forward to his craft time, and I’m prepared because I don’t need to gather all the supplies.

I highly recommend Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts for your preschool children. Learn more at www.shirleysprepackagedcrafts.com.
